Contrary to the billion-dollar positive thinking industry – and our constitutional “unalienable right” to pursue happiness, attaining happiness as a final, end goal is unrealistic. Not only can it set us up for disappointment, it’s just not how life really works.

Happiness is really more like a “by-product” of living a life of meaning. This article explains happiness from a biological perspective, and gives a new level of understanding as to why “happiness” can sometimes feel so elusive….

We’re not designed to be happy.

Even so, evolution has given us a way to compensate for this built-in “default” setting: the ability to step back, evaluate, discern, strategize, distinguish patterns, plan, dream, imagine…..
